Outside the Frame
Outside The Frame follows a team of seven wildlife filmmakers in their search for endangered species, and highlights the contrast that they discover between pristine beauty of wild spaces and the reality of climate change and human activity.
Synopsis
Wildlife photographers are sent on assignment to capture the iconic images of wildlife that we see on television and big screen documentaries. But it is becoming increasingly difficult to find and photograph pristine natural scenes without showing the impact of human development. OUTSIDE THE FRAME blends natural history with commentary from the photographers, and behind the scenes footage to capture the larger stories of endangered species.
The project took the team around the world, from the unforgiving landscape of the Canadian Arctic in search of polar bears, to the warm waters of French Polynesia, for a closeup view of the bond between a mother humpback whale and her newborn calf. In the Kenyan highlands, a team of rangers protect the last two remaining Northern White Rhinos, while scientists race to save this species from extinction. To Madagascar, where determined conservationists are working to save lemurs from extinction. And on the beaches of Costa Rica, to film the last great gatherings of sea turtles.
Keystone species such of the salmon on the west coast of North America, and coral in tropical reefs around the world highlight the contrasts between the natural beauty of these ecosystems, and the threats of industrial development and climate change.
The film also captures big and small conservation success stories. Beacons of hope for the beauty of nature.
